The El-Reno tornado was an EF3 tornado that struck Canadian County, Oklahoma, near El-Reno and adjacent areas during early evening May 31, 2013.

The tornado started at 6:03 p.m. CDT (5:03 CST), some 4.4 miles west of the town of Newcastle, and was on the ground for about 40 minutes, barreling through Moore and finally dissipating near the intersection of I-40 and Banner Road, at 6:43 p.m. CDT (5:43 p.m. CST). According to National Weather Service surveyors. The total path of the tornado was 16.2 miles long.

The tornado that struck El Reno, Oklahoma, on May 31, 2013 was an EF 3 it's believed to be the widest on record in the United States at 2.6 miles across , the NWS found EF3 damage, but winds of 302 mph were measured by two separate DOW (Doppler On Wheels) Mobile radar trucks. Winds of this magnitude are EF5. But damage is how tornadoes are rated .

The tornado started at 6:03 p.m. CDT. southwest of El Reno. It was heading directly for Union City before turning toward I-40. It broke a world record just east of Highway 81 by reaching a width of 2.6 miles. It took 40 minutes before the tornado died down, just west of Yukon.

We lost three incredible storm chasers on Friday, May 31, 2013 in the violent El Reno, Oklahoma tornado while they were trying to document it. - Tim and Paul Samaras, and Carl Young - Tim was a friend that I miss dreadfully. These three were the greatest and safest people in the storm chasing business. My heart and prayers will always go out to them and their families.

The cities of Moore and El Reno sustained significant tornado damage Please keep Oklahoma in your hearts and prayers.

The three of you will always be in our hearts.
