January 10th, 2025

This will be a fairly quick post. I will likely post a more detailed post on Sunday.

No changes to what I've been saying the last couple of days. The storm is going to be suppressed to the south.

Today is warmer with diminished winds, generally 10-15 mph with some higher gust. The storm I have been talking about will pass to our south tonight into Saturday. This will bring light snow to the northern Middle Atlantic with extreme Southern Maryland and Southern Delaware having a chance for upwards of 4 inches of snow, north of there a trace to 2 inches of snow across much of Pennsylvania into New Jersey.  At the same time a Clipper in the Great Lakes will bring light snow to, parts of Northern Pennsylvania, New York State into New England. The snow out of this will also be light generally ranging from a dusting to 2 inches, but a few inches will be possible in Adirondacks, Greens, and Whites.

Temperatures over the weekend into Tuesday will turn seasonal with generally dry conditions, but those downwind of the Great Lakes will be dealing with heavy lake effect snow, into Wednesday. The cold will return by mid next week, this cold will be similar to what we’ve been seeing, winds will also be back, bringing low wind chills. There is a chance for another storm for Friday into Saturday.

Cold air will move to the region, but I think it will last only a few days, before we see temperatures try to warm up. This slight warm up could last into around Martin Luther King Day, before we see another Arctic air outbreak move into the Central US, from here it will move east.  This outbreak could be as cold if not colder than we’ve seen. With the cold air pushing down into Florida. The North Atlantic Osculation (NAO) is fairly weak, so the blocking isn’t all that strong. That will mean, we will have to watch out for storms forming across the south, these would likely be suppressed to our south; but they would have a chance to come up the East Coast, or depending on the setup at the time, come up across the Great Lakes. For those thinking the cold air invasions and winter are over, think again. The extended pattern is looking cold and active, with the cold will come the chances for snow storms.
