We have an arctic front approaching, behind the front much colder air will filter into the Eastern CONUS. The cold will make it all the way to the Gulf Coast and Florida. A storm will form along the boundary, bringing ice and snow to the Gulf Coast and Northern Florida.
For us ahead of the approaching front, we’re mild with increasing winds. With this a general 1-3 inches of snow is going to fall today into early Sunday, the highest elevations could see 3-6 inches. The arctic front is going to stall off the Coast, allowing the southern storm to redevelop off the Carolinas then head north and east up the Coast developing as it does so. The storm could rapidly deepen once in the Gulf of Maine as it heads toward Nova Scotia.
Winds will
be gusty with the storm, with winds of 20-30 mph and gust of 40-50 mph. General
timing for the snow will be Sunday afternoon into Monday morning. This is a fast-moving
storm, but due to the brutal cold, the snow will be fluffy. So, snow will quickly
accumulate. Here is a general snowfall map for the Coastal Storm. These amounts
cover only the coastal storm itself, there could be higher or lower amounts in
these general snow amount zones.
The air coming in for next week is going to be dangerous and the coldest air we’ve seen in several years; the blustery conditions will lead to very low wind chills. The winds will also allow for a significant multi-day lake effect snow event downwind of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. The pattern is active, and there is a chance for a second storm later next week, that could be similar to the one for Sunday into Monday.

Thank you! It’s a travel week so this could not have happened at a worst time.
