Today’s
Northeast weather discussion…
The Clipper is moving toward northern Maine. With the Clipper we have snow showers and some snow squalls across the region. Arctic air behind the front, is going to allow temperatures to freefall during today into tonight. Winds will pick up behind the arctic front, with winds of 15-30 mph, with gust of 50-60 mph possible.
Lake effect
snow is going to setup east and southeast of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, later
this afternoon into tonight; continuing tomorrow and lingering into Saturday. Those
under the most persistent snow bands will likely pick up another 1-2 feet of
snow with some areas seeing 3+ feet of snow by Saturday morning. The winds are
going to allow for a lot of blowing and drifting snow.
Away from
the Great Lakes, tomorrow will see Sun but it will be very cold and breezy, but
for those closer to the departing Clipper, winds of 20-30 mph with gust near 50
mph will be possible. So, blowing snow will still be an issue.
Saturday
high pressure will begin to push in overhead. Sunday will see low pressure pass
to our north, dragging a warm front across the region. The front will bring
scattered rain/snow showers. This front
will allow for temperatures becoming warmer. Then Low pressure will approach
and move through for Monday into Tuesday. With the warmer temperatures many
areas will see rain, with a mix possible in the higher elevations across the
northern part of the region. With the rain, Northern Maine could see several inches
of snow. Those who still have a lot of snow on their roofs, may want to get
that snow off, before the rain adds a lot of weight to the snow.
Wednesday will see low pressure develop to our south, this will lift north and east toward New England. Cold air will wrap in behind the low, temperatures will once again plunge into the basement. So that by later Wednesday into Thursday, rain will be changing over to snow across much of the interior parts of the region, and a rain snow mix across parts of the coastal plain. Thursday will once again see the lake effect machine start up.
I need to see more eyes on these post. It takes a lot of personal time, time I could spend elsewhere, to make these daily outlooks. So please share and pass the word about the Wx4cast site , to as many as you can.

ReplyDeleteThank you from Rhode Island. Grassy areas and roads had a coating early today before the switch to rain. A couple of breaks of sun to add to the day. Breezy and chilly now.
ReplyDeleteEnded with 8.5 in Berlin. Forecast importent, especially with change overs from rain to snow. Helps daily planning.
