The week
ahead
The latest
storm is pulling away.
Snow across Maine is ending, but there could be a few snow showers remaining during the early afternoon. Generally, snow amounts were around the forecasted amounts; but some areas did see lesser amounts due to that warm nose allowing warm air aloft which resulted in higher amounts of sleet, which cut down of the snowfall amounts. Later today lake effect snow will start up southeast of Lake Ontario, the band will stay generally in this area tonight into tomorrow afternoon, before shifting north and dissipating, those under the most persistent parts of the band closer to the lake will likely see 5-12 inches of lake snow, with those outside of the main band seeing 1-5 inches of snow. For the rest of the region Monday into much of Tuesday will be will be tranquil
Tomorrow is
going to see a system develop over Kansas and Missouri. Gulf moisture will be streaming north running
into cold air dropping from the north.
On Tuesday this
is going to push east heading for the Coast. Then late Tuesday into Wednesday
it will continue out to sea, without hooking north On the northern side of
this, along and south of the Mason Dixon Line and Southeast Pennsylvania, southern
New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware and the Delmarva could see heavy snow. It is
possible some Light snow could make it as far north as Harrisburg and Allentown
Right on its heels we will see another system coming out of the southern Plains, this one is going to be have more in the way of a complex setup. Low Pressure will move toward the Ohio Valley and Lower Great Lakes. There looks to be cold air damming that will set up east of the Appalachians. This will allow for Sleet, freezing rain, and snow (heavy for some) on the northern side of this system. Sleet and freezing rain could be much more widespread across Pennsylvania, Northern New Jersey, southern New York State and Southern New England than the storms last week. Pennsylvania and the rest of the Middle Atlantic could start out as snow, before a change over to sleet and freezing rain, at some point this would likely change to plain rain. The farther north you are the greater your chance of staying all snow. Coastal New England could see a few inches then it could change to a mix as the system departs.
With all of
these storms remember, Ice accretion of ¼” or higher can lead to tree branches and
or power lines breaking leading to power outages.
This parade of storms pattern looks to continue for Presidents Day week. These storms look to start in the south and move north and east heading in our direction. Each of these will bring the combination of rain, mix and snow to parts of the region.
Thank you and happy Sunday.
