The lack of
a ridge over the Rockies means we in a zonal flow. We also have an upper level
low up over the Hudson Bay along with no blocking near Greenland. So, we’re
seeing these fast-moving storms move through the region every other day or so.
Behind
yesterday’s storm it has been cold and windy, with gust of 30-50 mph. Lake effect
has been falling downwind of Lake Ontario. Those under the most persistent
bands look to see an additional 3-8 inches by tomorrow morning.
Our next
storm
Far northern
New York State northern Vermont and northern New Hampshire closer to the
Canadian Border as well as northern Maine 1-3 inches
Most of western
New York, across the Tug Hill, Adirondacks northern Vermont, northern New
Hampshire, and Central Maine 3-6 inches of snow. Far western New York State and
northwest Pennsylvania near the Ohio border 1-3 inches.
For New York
State south and east of Syracuse, into the far southern Adirondacks, eastern New York State north and west of New York City, Connecticut,
Massachusetts, Rhode Island, southern Vermont, southern New Hampshire and southwest
Maine a general 4-10 inches of snow. Places
like the Catskills, southern Greens, Berkshires and Helderberg Escarpment will
have the best chance of seeing 8-12+ inches of snow.
Across northwest/
central and northern tier of Pennsylvania and Northern New Jersey, NYC and Long
Island 2-5 inches of snow, before a transition to sleet and freezing rain.
Central New
Jersey 1-3 inches of snow, with some mix then a change to all rain
For southeast
Pennsylvania including Philadelphia northern into central Maryland including
Washington DC a trace to 2 inches of snow and freezing rain. North and West of Philadelphia and DC the Ice
will become an issue with 0.20 to 0.30 of an inch of ice accretion. The biggest danger of 0.25 to 0.50+ of an inch
of ice accretion will be for the Allegheny Mountains, Laurel Highlands and south-central
Pennsylvania. This kind of Ice
accumulation will likely lead to travel delays and power outages.
Southwest
Pennsylvania southern New Jersey and southern Maryland, and southern Delaware looks
to be mostly rain with some mixing.
The Saturday
storm will be pulling away on Sunday, as high pressure builds in. leading to a tranquil
later Sunday and Monday, then another system will roll through for Tuesday and
Wednesday. Then we look to see another
system roll through for the end of next week. The following week also looks to be very active.
Winter is going like gang busters, and that doesn’t look to change anytime soon!
