It’s August, but the pattern remains wet!

 A quick overview of this week’s weather.

Outside of a few isolated showers, yesterday was great.  Low pressure that was centered over Illinois yesterday is going to be rotating around into New York State.  A leading warm front is pushing through the region, allowing temperature and humidity levels to climb. We have a slow moving cold front approaching, which is in the process of stalling over the Ohio Valley and extend up over New York State.

Along and ahead of the front we have scattered rain showers and isolated thunderstorms. These are going to become more widespread, especially late this afternoon and tonight.

Some of the thunderstorms could become strong to severe this afternoon and into tonight. The main danger will be damaging wind gusts and flooding rainfall, particularly across western Maryland, Pennsylvania. The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has a Marginal Risk for severe weather across western New York State, most of Pennsylvania into New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland in the northern Middle Atlantic. The Marginal Risk moves into much of New England and continues into the Middle Atlantic tonight and tomorrow. there is a chance SPC increases the risk for tomorrow.

 

 

 

These showers and storms will drop several inches of rain. Leading to the threat for localized flash and metro flooding. The Weather Prediction Center (WPC) has a Slight Risk for excessive rainfall across this area along that stalled frontal boundary. With a Marginal Risk across the rest of the Middle Atlantic, Pennsylvania and western New England.  

 

Tonight, and tomorrow the flood risk will expand eastward. 

The Quantitative Precipitation Forecast (QPF) for the 1-5 day.  

We’re going to be dealing with persistent troughing this week, with several systems rolling through, keeping things very unsettled. General rainfall over the next week, will be 1-3 inches with localized areas seeing 3-6 inches of rain. Who sees the most rain will depend in we’re training storms setup.  The second half of the week will be much drier than the first half. Then a stronger cold front moves through for Friday and Saturday.
