It's certainly cold out and that wind is making it feel brutal!
The surface chart and regional radar.
The pressure gradient Is gonna remain tight for tomorrow ensuring that gusty winds will be continuing. Tomorrow is gonna remain cold. Away from the lakes expect a mix of sun and clouds and generally dry conditions.
On the satellite we can see that big dip in the jet stream over the eastern half of the US. allowing all this cold to settle in.
On Saturday We're going to have a quick moving disturbance move across southeastern Canada Into the northeast US. This will bring Snow showers to northern New York state And northern New England. This is also going to reinvigorate The lake effect coming downwind off from the Great Lakes. Those who get under the most intense bands could pick up several inches of snow. Elsewhere It should be a day with mix of sun and clouds and a chance for a few snow showers here and there.
Our storm for the weekend Is currently up near the Gulf of Alaska. From here It's gonna drop into the pacific northwest and then move south and east along the lower side of that trough, heading for the Ohio Valley. This is where that trough orientation I was talking about yesterday comes into play. Both the EURO and GFS models are showing the trough orientation having a positive tilt. Which means this storm would not come up the coast, it would be directed off the Middle Atlantic coast and out to sea. This also limits the interaction Will the northern disturbance, keeping this a much weaker storm. With the southern storm looking Like it's heading out to sea, this would take a lot of the snow Out to see with it. For Saturday night into Sunday it looks like we're going to see this try to redevelop Off the Mid Atlantic coast. So this won't be a huge storm But it will be a fast moving snowstorm for some. Based on the way things look right now. The Delmarvia Peninsula and Washington DC, along with the I-95 corridor from Philadelphia up through New York city and Boston could see a general 1-4 inches of snow, with Boston likely being on the lower end of that scale. Further north you are the less likely you are to see snow from this coastal Storm. But a few snow showers and flurries will be possible across central New England back into central New York State. This is all based on my current understanding of the setup Possible track this storm looks to take. If all that changes, then the forecast of course would change as well.
Monday into Tuesday we will see high pressure move in overhead. With the Sun it will will mean temperatures will rebound a little bit. Each day will feature a chance for a few snow showers or flurries as a little trough moves into and over the region. Later Tuesday A warm front is gonna lift through the region Allowing winds to become southerly which will allow our Wednesday to be warmer. Then on Thursday we will see another clipper like system in the Great Lakes push a cold front into the region bringing a chance for snow showers and flurries.
Enjoy your day!
