Arctic. air is coming.

Meteorological winter it's just a little over 3 weeks away. The pattern is going to give us a taste of winter like temperatures as arctic air drops south and plunges far south as the Gulf of America and into southern Florida.

I've been posting a lot of details over the last several days On this storm it's coming through. Not much has changed and all of that Deal more with who's gonna see the accumulating snow So this post is going to concentrate more on Snowfall and who might see what along with projected possible snow amounts.

We have that Alberta clipper Working its way through A long with blocking sitting up over Greenland. This is gonna force the arctic air behind the clipper to move way to the south.

As I've been saying for the last several days that an Alberta clipper is going to drop  out of Canada and Track southeast diving under the Great Lakes. We can see this on the surface and 500MB chart. From here it's going to be heading towards Ontario and Quebec. A head of this We will see rain showers Then as the temperatures drop these rain showers will change over to a mix and then some snow showers especially in the higher elevations. This is going to produce a swath of snow From the Upper Midwest down through the Midwest. The storm is going to be deepening as it slides under the Great Lakes, parts of Michigan into north west Ohio and northern Illinois could see 3-8 " of snow With some areas in Michigan seeing as much as 14" of snow. West Virginia And the high peaks of the Appalachians And the high peaks of the Appalachians And the high peaks of the Appalachian Could pick up over a foot of heavy snow. The Providences of Ontario and Quebec will get walloped with accumulating snow with 8-12  inches (20 - 30 cm) of snow very likely with snow totals of over a foot very likely with localized areas seen as much as 14-16 inches (35-40 cm).

For here in the Northeast, The Adirondacks look to pick up 2-6  inches during Monday and Tuesday. The Whites and Greens Picking up 1 to perhaps 4 inches of snow. The Berkshires Catskills and Poconos will see snow flurries develop with accumulations of a dusting to a couple inches possible. The lower elevations of northern New York State and northern New England could see a dusting or so even in the valleys.

Behind a clipper, Arctic air is gonna move into the region as that upper level low that has been up over Hudson bay drops south with that dip in the jet stream. Those downwind of of the big lakes, especially southeast of the lakes Erie and  Ontario will likely pick up 3-8 inches, with a foot to possibly as much as 18 inches in some localized areas.

Behind the clipper for the rest of the week. The Northeast is going to see reinforcing shots of cold as several troughs work their way through the Northeast, Keeping things cool and unsettled.

Things are still evolving so things could change a bit but this is basically how it looks to go at this time

  1. Thanks! Do you think the drought-y conditions are going to impact snowfall potential?
