Chilly today but warmth is coming!

Looking at the surface chart and radar.

The surface chart shows that area of strong high pressure Sitting over the north east. This is surpressing that weak area of low pressure to our south. Keeping the rain and snow showers Mostly south of the Mason Dixon line.

The satellite is showing all the lifting and clouds down over Pennsylvania and the Middle Atlantic. with all or mostly all sun up over New York State and New England. The clouds over Pennsylvania are going to continue to drift east.t

The blood moon eclipse

In the predawn hours tomorrow morning; we're going to have a chance to see the blood moon eclipse. During the eclipse, the moon will appear to take on a red hue. Which gives the eclipse its name. The moon will enter into the total phase of the eclipse at 6:04AM.  Totality will last for 58 minutes. Here on the east coast the moon is going to be setting during the total phase of the eclipse. Viewing is going to depend on cloud cover.

The following image is in universal time

We're very chilly today. But this cold isn't going to last for long. As that low pressure continues ahead for the coast most the precipitation should stay south of the mason Dixon line.  But some flurries will be caught possible across far southern Pennsylvania as well as Maryland, Delaware into southern New Jersey. Saturday night and Sunday we had that arctic cold front Set up cold air over the region. We're starting to see The cold air give way as warmer air is trying to slip its way north.

Later today and tomorrow We're going to see low pressure develop over the plains along with increased  moisture developing over the Tennessee valley.  Tomorrow the low is going to move north and east towards the Great Lakes accompanied with a warm front.

For the I-95 corridor and towards the coast between Washington DC and New York city This would be primarily just rain Snowflakes mixed in. North and west of there across interior Pennsylvania It will start out as some snow any accumulation should be very light. Be for This transitions to some mix And then plain rain. As this progresses that snow sleet mix will continue to move into New York State leaving limited accumulation amounts. The southern half of New York state could end up with a dusting to 2" with a glazing of ice. Closer to the I90 corridor and north of Albany there could be 1-3 " of snow before the changeover. For southern New England Southern Connecticut southern Rhode Island over into the cape this will be mostly rain. North of there across the rest of  Massachusetts there will be a snow sleet ice mix That could result in the dusting to an inch or two before a change over to rain. It looks to be mostly on snow across Vermont New Hampshire into  southern Maine. with 1-3 " possible This will be especially true for higher elevations of the southern Adirondacks and across southern Vermont where slightly higher amounts will be possible. Across northern Maine snow amounts will likely be less than an inch. Any snow from this won't be light and fluffy it's gonna be very dense and heavy.

Northeast is gonna be dealing with another system Later Thursday into friday This is looking to be mainly rain. But there could be some mix in the higher elevations.

With temperatures turning milder midweek into next week; we are going to likely see ice start to break up on some of the streams and rivers across the region. This will bring the risk for ice jams and ice jam flooding Where flood waters can quickly rise Especially in those typical areas that flood in the spring.

Past midweek we're going to have a boundary set up across the region As we move forward We're gonna see systems Move across the plains and across our region With the warmer temperatures The precipitation type is going to be mainly rain, But there could be some mix at times especially in the higher elevations.

These milder temperatures will be with us until we start to approach midmonth. Then we're likely to see Cooler air start to drop down out of Canada as we move past midmonth.
