It's definitely colder!

 Welcome to friday!

We have a strong area of low pressure up over the great lakes. This clipper is going to quicky head east today Across far northern New York State and northern New England.

Things are chilly right now But it's very quiet across the region But that's going to change this afternoon as all this gets closer.

As this clipper rolls through When's are gonna become very gusty Later this afternoon  through tomorrow. Wind gust of 30-40 plus miles an hour Will be very possible.

Many parts of the region this afternoon into the evening  will start off as rain, with the exception of those high elevations In New York state and northern into central new England start as snow. But as temperatures fall this evening through tonight The lower elevations of northern Pennsylvania New York state and northern and central new England will likely turn over to some snow. Elevation is going to be a big factor in how much snow you see.

The northern tier of Pennsylvania and the southern tier of New York State as well as the mohawk valley and Hudson valley will likely see a dusting to 2" of snow (The poconos could pick up a bit more). A large part of the rest of New York State and northern into central New England will see a general 1-3" of snow. The Catskills as well as the Green mountains could see 3-6",  The Berkshires could see 2-4 " The northern half of Maine will likely also pick up 3-6 ". A dusting to 2" of snow is also possible Massachusetts as well as areas north of the turnpike. The areas in New York State north Of the Mohawk Valley could see a stripe of 3-6 " east of lake Ontario. With areas of the Tug Hill into the southern Adirondacks having a good chance to see 5-12 plus inches of snow. A combination of synoptic and lake effect snow. ( A synoptic impact is just precipitation and effects from a low pressure system) by Saturday afternoon. Areas of northern New York State closer to the Saint Lawrence Valley and the northern Adirondacks Could pick up 1-4 " of snow.

For southern Massachusetts Connecticut Rhode Island as well as the Southern half of Pennsylvania into Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey this will be primarily just rain with a chance for a few snow snow showers mixing in at times. Far southern parts of the region likely just see isolated rain showers. These areas should see no accumulation.

Snow will be continuing on Saturday into the afternoon. across parts of northern parts of the region While the rest of the region stays basically dry, as high pressure built in This high pressure will stay overhead for Sunday Providing most of us with a breezy but nice day. But we will be watching a system approaching the Great Lakes.

We also have another area of low pressure up over the Pacific Northwest. This is going to track across the US, then it will be heading our way Sunday and Monday of next week. This is going to have a very strong cold front moving West to east. Ahead of it we're going to see A warm front move into the region later Sunday into Monday.  A strong southern flow will direct mild air Into our region. This storm Is going to be coming out of the Great Lakes and looks they have a similar track to what we see coming through tomorrow.  The storm 40 end of the weekend into next week is also going to be very windy.

The trailing cold front will be coming through Later Monday into Tuesday. Ahead of the front I'm expecting a lot of widespread rain and thunderstorms. Some of these storms are going to be strong and severe. And I do think this is going fairly widespread and looks to be the regions biggest severe weather day we've seen so far in March. The reason I'm thinking this Is due to timing and the orientation of that trough axis.  But the actual severe threat will depend on timing and cloud cover. Snow impacts with this Will likely target most of the same areas that see snow later today into tomorrow. But the biggest snow impacts look to be in Canada.

Behind the front we're going to have a very deep trough over the eastern North America. So we are going to have a few days of below average to well below average temperatures for this point in the year.

Real spring will get here but it might take a few weeks before it does. Until then we can expect to stay on this temperature rollercoaster.
