Our coastal storm/nor'easter is developing off the Carolina coast. It is already bringing high winds and coastal flooding to areas from the Carolinas and points southward. The Middle Atlantic and Northeast will feel it's impacts starting tomorrow Lasting into Tuesday. As I've been saying this is going to be a long duration event. So the impacts will stretch out for 36-48 plus hours
I've been saying that there was a chance this could try to develop tropical characteristics And become a hybrid storm possibly even a named subtropical system. But regardless of this, this is going to be a damaging and very disruptive storm from southern New England right down the Atlantic Coast
Southeast new England Down into the middle Atlantic and down Delmarva Peninsula will see the impacts from later Sunday afternoon that linger into Tuesday. With the biggest impact occurring later Sunday night and through Monday.
The general rainfall amounts I laid out yesterday still look to be well within the ballpark. So I'm going to leave them alone If you want to see them you can go back and read the post I did yesterday. What I wanted to do with this post Was try to give more detail on where I think the dang of wind gust will be across the region.
Wind:
These are my ideas across the various areas of the Northeast and northern Middle Atlantic region
For western and central Pennsylvania, western and central and northern New York State as well as western and northern Vermont wind gust of 10-20 mph will be possible
The wind gust across eastern New York state Look to be 15-30 mph, With the higher elevations seeing the higher end of that.
For Eastern Maryland Including Washington DC, Eastern Pennsylvania including Philadelphia, Southeast New York state including New York City and western long Island, western Connecticut, western Massachusetts Southeast Vermont and up much of New Hampshire into interior Maine wind gust of 20-40 mph
Rhode Island and Southeast new England Including Boston looks like wind gust of 35-50 mph
Wind gust for eastern Delaware and eastern and southern New Jersey, eastern Long Island, the Cape and off-shore islands look to be 45 to 70 mph. A few gusts approaching 80 mph Is possible
These winds are going to drive a storm surge into the coast 1 to 3 feet, with some inlets and bays seeing as much as 5 feet, Along the coast of southern new England, Long Island and down the coast as far as Virginia Beach. Leading to general moderate to severe coastal flooding, along with significant beach erosion. All of this will lead to a chance for structural damage. Power outages are also a strong possibility. Expect that surface and air transportation are also going to be greatly impacted.
